The dromedary is a majestic, intelligent and sociable animal. Its body adapts perfectly to extreme heat. It can travel long distances with very little water or food, as its fatty hump provides it with reserves. Its blood consists of small, oval-shaped red blood cells that circulate easily even when dehydrated, and its urine is highly concentrated. In the event of a sandstorm, it has two rows of long eyelashes and can close its nostrils to protect itself. Its lips are adapted to reach small leaves in thorny bushes, and its scaly tongue allows it to eat the thorns. It has no hooves but two very broad and flexible toes, enabling it to walk easily in the sand. It lives in groups; it is peaceful, and there is no jostling when arriving at a waterhole \u2013 each animal waits its turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
